City of Sioux Center issued the following announcement on Oct. 17.
Siouxnami Waterpark opened in late June to rave reviews and record numbers of visitors from across the region.
Prior to the opening of the new outdoor waterpark, in 2018, the All Seasons Center saw a summer attendance of 215 people per day at its indoor and outdoor pools. For the 2019 summer, average daily attendance rose to 781.
“I was taken aback by how many people came from different communities,” said All Seasons Center director Dave Ruter. “They came from a 60-70 mile radius, and there were repeat customers. We talked to some people from Vermillion who came six times, and people from Sioux City and Sioux Falls who came multiple times. It was fun to see people come from all over and have a good time here.”
Peak attendance at the new waterpark was 1,777 people. Ruter said they sold more All Seasons Center memberships and saw a lot more family groups coming this summer, including dads and grandparents.
“Siouxnami offers things for all ages. We had a lot of great comments about the different features, the zip line, slides, climbing wall,” Ruter said. “The Waters Edge Aquatic Design company did well. Taking our team’s ideas, they really hit it out of the park.”
Existing water features at the All Seasons Center, including the zero-depth entry pool outside, also were busy.
“The whole thing, inside and out, got a lot more usage,” Ruter said. “People appreciated the admission and concession prices. Concession sales increased by 300%, and we hope to add more meal-based foods next year.”
Many high reviews of Siouxnami Waterpark recognized the staff for being friendly and attentive.
“Our guards and supervisors were fantastic,” Ruter said. “They were well-trained by Jill Miller and Tanya Vande Griend, who worked crazy hard leading up to opening and through the summer.”
Renting the waterpark for private parties was a hit, with 11 groups hosting events, plus an evening sponsored by a local bank offering free admission to everyone.
“We hope other businesses might do something like that – it was really a neat day,” Ruter said. “Our two-dollar Tuesdays were another great community partnership. People brought a canned good to receive $2 admission after 5 p.m. We had boxloads of food to give Mid-Sioux Opportunity each week.”
Siouxnami Waterpark is slated to reopen Memorial Day weekend 2020 and stay open through Labor Day. Plans include staying open an additional hour on Saturdays, extending closing those days from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“We had a great summer, and we can’t wait to see everyone come enjoy Siouxnami in 2020,” Ruter said.
