South O’Brien School District has been forced to close its doors to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic, but its focus remains open to teaching and learning.
The school is moving forward with remote lessons rather than wait until April 13 to find out if it is able to resume classes behind its familiar brick walls.
Superintendent Dan Moore told nwiowa.com remote lessons could come in a number of ways.
“We will be doing remote learning,” Moore said. “That can look like many things. That’s not necessarily online classes. That might mean they’re emailing them or they’re in Google Drive.”
It might also require some effort from teachers who would have to drop off a packet to students without internet access.
Despite halls being quiet during the shutdown, the district will continue to pay both its hourly and salaried employees full wages. In addition to salaried employees continuing to provide remote instruction there will be upkeep and maintenance opportunities for hourly wage earners.
