City of Sioux Center issued the following announcement on Apr. 7.
Sioux Center playgrounds are temporarily closed. Gov. Kim Reynolds has temporarily suspended use of Iowa’s playgrounds and park equipment as part of ongoing efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Sioux Center’s recreation trails and green spaces remain open at this time, and users are asked to not gather in groups of 10 or more and to keep 6 feet of distance between people.
We continue to encourage residents to get outdoors and enjoy spring, always respecting others with social distancing.
The Sioux Center Parks Department will continue to monitor developments with COVID-19 and how it impacts the use of city parks, fields, and trails.
The Sioux Center football field and track are closed to the public until further notice. We will continue to adapt this plan as needed.
We urge everyone to follow Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Following CDC guidance, the Sioux Center Parks Department recommends that everyone take the following precautions when visiting our parks and trails:
• Follow CDC’s guidance on personal hygiene prior to heading to parks and trails: wash your hands, carry hand sanitizer, do not use trails or parks if you have symptoms, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, etc.
• Keep the CDC’s minimum recommended social distance of 6 feet from other people. Maintain this distance as you walk, run or bike. Our recreation trail is 8 feet wide and allows for passing.
• Warn other trail users of your presence and as you pass to allow proper distance and step off trails to allow others to pass, keeping the minimum recommended 6-foot distance.
• Park restrooms and water fountains will remain closed until further notice.
• Trash pickup is limited until further notice. Please take your trash home if at all possible.
• Gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited according to the proclamation made by Iowa Governor Reynolds on 3/17/20.
• Above all, stay home when you are sick in order to avoid exposing others.
For high-risk populations, such as the elderly and people with underlying conditions, take extra caution and follow CDC guidance for those at higher risk of serious illness.
