City of Orange issued the following announcement on Apr. 4.
Residents are reminded to take the steps to divert their sump pump discharge outside prior to April 15. The purpose of this requirement is to reduce the risk of overloading the sanitary sewer system. The majority of the community has been able to have their sump pump systems improved to allow discharge into the sanitary sewer during the winter, but diverted
outside during the warmer seasons. Thank you for your compliance!
If you have not had this change made in your home – please do so as soon as possible. Residents are also encouraged to avoid flushing items that are not biodegradable. Paper towels and sanitary wipes all have the potential for causing residential sewer back-ups and problems in the city's sewer system.
