City of Sioux Center issued the following announcement on Apr. 17.
With the ongoing efforts to help mitigate any community spread of the Coronavirus, Sioux Center residents are being encouraged to avoid travel to South Dakota and Minnesota at this time.
“We are impressed by the ways Sioux Center residents have taken safety measures seriously and helped slow the spread here,” said Sioux Center Mayor David Krahling. “With the recent increase in cases in our neighboring states, we recognize that the journey is not over, and we are asking Sioux Center residents to limit travel to these states and outside the region.”
Krahling encouraged residents to continue following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), including:
- Stay home as much as possible
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others (This does not apply for children under age 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing or would be unable to remove the mask without assistance)
- Keep at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily
Local community and health leaders continue to regularly monitor and coordinate Sioux Center response to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The community effort and spirit demonstrated here during the pandemic has been both remarkable and also completely in character for the Sioux Center we know. Our community’s ‘Progress through Cooperation’ mindset continues to guide us even through these unprecedented times,” Krahling said.
