O’Brien County’s second phase of reopening is underway.

Approved at a board of supervisors meeting on July 28 and in effect as of Aug. 5, the latest phase enables the public to visit the county courthouse from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. using the east entrance. Citizens, however, must make appointments for the hours of 8 to 9 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors will have their temperatures checked and will also be subjected to a screening for COVID-19 symptoms. A mask is required inside the courthouse, to which county emergency management agency coordinator Jared Johnson said there is an ample supply.

“I originally bought around 800 normal face masks. I gave them to the public health office, which it looks like we still have over 500, so usage hasn’t been extensive,” Johnson told NWestIowa.com. “A lot of individuals bring their own, which is great.”

While phase two appears to be less restrictive, the county still recommends residents to engage in other ways of conducting business such as the Internet and the phone.
