Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon plans to resume classes on Wednesday, Aug. 19, with students expected to begin moving in on Monday, Aug. 17.
Administrators expect a summer of practicing on a smaller scale has well-prepared them for the return.
Mark Brown, vice president for College Operations and Finance, recently told KIWA Radio that community colleges have some advantage, as they already operate on a smaller scale, which makes precautions such as social distancing easier to realize.
“We know we can’t totally prevent the spread, but we do our best to reduce it as much as possible,” he told KIWA Radio. “We think the reaction times and the processes that we’ve learned this summer will help us to certainly minimize that spread.”
While the campus will permit prospective students and parents to visit, other visitors will be limited, Brown told KIWA Radio.
The college will also require face masks any time employees or students are unable to maintain a six-foot distance from others, Brown said.
