After the storms last Monday in Iowa, farmers received some much needed rain.

"We are at a very important time for filling out corn and soybean crop, and we've been very short in much of Northwest Iowa so we've been getting some loses due to the lack of rainfall," Joel DeJong, ISU Field Agronomist, told KTIV. "Every bit helps and some neighborhoods have just been doing way better than others."

But the rainfall received won't be enough to keep crops afloat, especially since most of the farmlands in Northwest Iowa haven't seen much rain since April 1.

"We still have a need for significantly more rain in Northwest Iowa, preferably with no hail and heavy winds included," DeJong told KTIV.

While the rain helped some farmers out, it devastated others in the state. The heavy storms damaged much of Iowa's farmlands last week.

"Corn crops that get blown over at this stage of the game do not come up and it makes it tougher to finish filling the crop and it makes it really difficult to harvest those crops when they are flat in the ground," DeJong told KTIV.
