O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer has been accepting absentee ballot requests heading into the November election, and voters can accept a similar process to the June primary.
Absentee ballot requests must reach Rohwer’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, she told KIWA radio recently.
“Once again, like with the primary, the Secretary of State’s Office is going to send out an absentee request form to every active voter in the state of Iowa,” Rohwer told KIWA. “They’re telling us currently that those request forms will be going out the last week of August.”
But voters who haven’t received their ballot request form yet will simply have to keep checking the mail, she told KIWA. Rohwer’s office can’t provide the forms.
“We can’t mail out any absentee ballots, nor can you come in and vote in person until Oct. 5,” Rohwer told KIWA. “That will be the first day.”
Aside from the request deadline, voters also have to be careful about turning in their ballots, Rohwer said. Mailed ballots have to be postmarked no later than Monday, Nov. 2, or handed in at the auditor’s office no later than 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Absentee ballots cannot be turned in at a polling place.
