DORDT UNIVERSITY: Dordt to Host Beethoven Piano Recital

Piano(1000)

Dordt University issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

The Dordt University Music Department will be hosting a Beethoven piano recital in celebration of the 250th year since his birth in 1770. The recital will be held Friday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Dordt's B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The recital will highlight students of MaryLou Wielenga, piano instructor. Works will include Für Elise, the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata, and the Pathétique Sonata in its entirety. The recital will also include two marches for four-hands, and the fun Rondo a Capriccio (Rage Over a Lost Penny), performed by five students in a “piano relay” on two pianos.

The Steinway piano used for the recital was recently restored, with the entire inner mechanism adjusted so that the action is now perfectly even. The piano is now more responsive, and pianists are able to incorporate more extensive dynamic contrasts with better control. The exterior also received a makeover, with the veneer restored.

Masks are required for all recital attendees and seating will be socially distanced. Dordt University continues to monitor how Covid-19 affects our campus and community. Please visit dordt.edu/updates on the day of the event to see if there are any restrictions on in-person attendance or cancellations.
