City of Sioux Center issued the following announcement on Oct. 23.
A waterway in Children’s Park that is eroding some of the grounds is going to see improvements.
The Sioux Center Parks Department is working with a contractor to install culvert in the waterway, which originates near 4th Avenue at the west side of the park, and travels through the park to the east toward a retention area.
The new culvert will extend about three-quarters of the way through the park. It will be buried so the water can flow underground. The existing rock in this segment will be removed and new grass will be seeded.
“This project will improve safety at the park and also improve the look of this park,” said Sioux Center Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren. “Thanks for your patience while we improve this park.”
People are asked to refrain from using this area of the park, including the disc golf holes there, during construction and for about one week after construction to allow the new soil to settle. Van Meeteren said he anticipates seeding new grass this fall to prepare this area of the park for spring 2021.
