Dordt College issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.
Dordt University has announced plans for the remainder of the fall semester.
The last day of face-to-face classes for the fall semester will be Tuesday, November 24. Wednesday, November 25 will serve as a travel day, and classes will shift online on Monday, November 30. Finals week will take place online from Tuesday, December 8, to Friday, December 11.
“Leaving campus and traveling over Thanksgiving break increases the likelihood that students and employees will come in contact with Covid-19. With only two weeks left in the semester, returning to campus also increases the risk that students will need to quarantine or isolate during one of the busiest, most stressful times in their semester,” says President Erik Hoekstra. “We will miss having the students on-campus, but we believe that this is the safest course of action for our students’ and community’s well-being.”
“This summer, our faculty worked hard to prepare remote or online curricular backup for all of their courses,” says Dr. Leah Zuidema, vice president for academic affairs. “Our faculty are prepared for this transition and will do it well.”
Dordt is also looking ahead to the spring 2021 semester. The first day of classes for the spring semester will be Thursday, January 14. In late January, Dordt officials will announce their plans regarding spring break and Easter. Commencement will be held on Friday, May 7.
“As we make plans for the spring semester, we will take into account what we learned during the fall. We plan to begin in-person classes this spring semester in a way that provides a safe, fulfilling learning environment for our students,” says Robert Taylor, vice president for student success.
