Johnston Community School District recently issued the following announcement.

Sixth grader Quinnlyn Schulte used her class project to raise funds for the Animal Rescue League.

Sixth grader Quinnlyn Schulte took a look at the world around her and decided that her Extended Learning Program (ELP) independent learning project semester should be something that helped others.

With that attitude and a love for all kinds of creatures, along with some serious artistic ability, Schulte created a website to sell her handmade items, including earrings, hand-lettered notecards, and cold weather gear. She planned to donate 50 percent of each item’s sale price to the Animal Rescue League (ARL), located in Des Moines.

“BeaCute Studio” kept Schulte busy throughout the fall months, fulfilling orders and creating new goods. So much so, that when Giving Tuesday rolled around on December 1, Schulte donated $312.50 to the Animal Rescue League. Schulte was well-timed in her donation, as on that day, another ARL donor said they would triple all donations made.

“I decided to bring in the money I had raised so far so it would go three times further,” Schulte said. With the triple-match, the donation became $937.50! Since my first donation, I’ve raised more money through the website and will be making additional donations.”

The ARL did a special Facebook post on Schulte’s donation on Tuesday, Dec. 1, calling her #kidswhocare. Thank you for the difference you’ve made in our community, Quinnlyn!

Schulte donated $312.50 to the ARL on Giving Tuesday, which was then tripled by another donor, bringing the total to $937.50.
