First Mondays Speaker Series Lineup Announced

Genbusiness004

Dordt University issued the following announcement on August 4.

This fall, Dordt University will host the First Mondays Speaker Series. The purpose of the Series is to bring thinkers, writers, and cultural leaders to Dordt to discuss with the campus and broader community ideas that will stretch our imaginations, grow our understanding, and help us reform our world in God-honoring ways.

This year’s theme is making space—space for unique differences, blossoming creativity, and hard conversations.

Three speakers have been planned for the fall semester:

On Monday, September 6, Dr. Abby Foreman, professor of social work and public administration at Dordt, will speak on the topic of inclusivity for those in our communities who have different needs.

On Monday, September 27, Rev. Dr. Jennifer Powell McNutt, a professor at Wheaton College, will explore the connection between faith and science.

On Monday, November 6, Nashville singer-songwriter and author Andrew Peterson will speak on the significance of creating art in a time of exile—and in the evening, he will give a concert in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Each event takes place at 11 a.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium and are open to students, faculty, and community members.

Andreas Center Program Coordinator Ruth Clark describes this year’s theme as “pastoral.” She reflects that “culturally, we see a lot of fragmentation and frustration and anger, and we really desire for there to be conversations that are healthy, that can bring more and more awareness.”
