Dordt University issued the following announcement on October 19.
Janna Vanden Brink, a Dordt University senior, will present her flute and violin recital on Saturday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium with a public reception to follow.
A highlight of the recital is César Franck’s “Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano.” This dramatic and passionate piece, which explores the beauty of tonal color and range in the violin, effortlessly blends piano and violin in a powerful duet. The program also includes works by Bach, Ewazen, and Fauré. The recital will feature a violin trio with Dordt senior Brianna Miedema and sophomore Karli Vanden Brink. Vanden Brink will be accompanied by Lael Bervig a junior from Park Rapids, Minnesota.
Vanden Brink, of Orange City, Iowa, is majoring in K-12 Instrumental Music Education with a minor in Music Performance. She has studied flute with Stephanie Kocher and violin with Lisa Miedema since 2018. She participated in the Iowa Collegiate Honor Band in 2018 and 2019, as well as the CDBNA North Central Division Intercollegiate Honor Band in 2020. She was featured as a soloist with the Dordt University Chamber Orchestra during her sophomore year. She was the recipient of the Verbrugge Music Scholarship in 2019-20; the Anne Heyns DeBeer Music Education Scholarship, and the Steensma Music Scholarship in 2020-21; and the Norm and Val Duininck Scholarship for Music Education in 2021-22.
