Arjan Breukhoven will present a concert at Dordt University on Saturday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. It will include congregational hymn-singing, solo organ playing, improvisation, and a collaboration with the Dordt University Concert Choir.
The evening will include hymns such as “Holy, Holy, Holy” and “How Great Thou Art,” as well as transcriptions such as Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony” and Schiffrin’s “Mission Impossible,” as well as improvisations such as Fantasia “In Christ Alone.”
Born in Rotterdam, Breukhoven studied music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. An international concert organist both at home and in Europe, the United States, Russia, and Australia, he recently completed several tours in Europe. In 2023 he is scheduled for a concert tour in Australia. As an organist and as a pianist he has developed his own, wide-ranging style of improvisation.
Breukhoven participated in numerous recordings for radio and television, including the creation of 200 CDs and DVDs. Recent solo recordings include “Bach & Friends” in the Klosterkirche St. Antonius in Worbis (Thüringen, Germany) on one of the largest baroque organs of central Germany and most recently, released "Soundtracks," from world-famous films. In addition, he is the director of three large, well-known Dutch male choirs and the Australian Christian Men’s Choir in Perth, Australia. He also composes for choir, organ, and other instruments.
He is the recipient of distinguished royal awards. From France, he received the Médaille d'Argent (silver medal) by the Société Académic d'encouragement et d' éducation Arts, Sciences et Lettres in Paris in 2014. In 2020, he was royally distinguished in the name of the King of the Netherlands as a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
