Dordt To Host First Monday Speaker Series

This fall, the Andreas Center at Dordt University will host three speakers in the B.J. Haan Auditorium as part of the First Monday Speaker Series. The surrounding community is invited to join and learn from each of the following speakers:

  • September 5 at 11 a.m. – Dr. Elizabeth Lewis Hall, Professor of Psychology, Biola University. Dr. Hall will give a talk entitled “Speaking the Truth in Love: The Art and Science of Difficult Conversations.”
  • October 3 at 11 a.m. – Ms. Stephanie Summers, CEO, Center for Public Justice will speak on

“Considering Christian Love Surrounding Topics of Justice and Poverty.”

  • November 7 at 11 a.m. – Rev. Dr. Esau McCaulley, Associate Professor of New Testament, Wheaton College. Dr. McCaulley will explore “how our reading of Scripture is inextricably connected to our cultural context and personal experience.”
"One of the themes we hope to explore this year is how we might follow the words of author Wendell Berry, and 'practice virtue with skill,’” says Dr. Channon Visscher, director of the Andreas Center.

This theme supports Dordt’s Educational Task to produce “knowledgeable and skillful students desiring to carry out their calling and vocation in service and loving obedience.”

Each year, the Andreas Center invites speakers to campus that engage in the intersection of culture and faith, who will help stretch imaginations, grow understanding, and re-form the world in God-honoring ways.

"We look forward to providing speakers with a variety of areas of expertise who can encourage all of us to do our work well, accompanied by genuine Christian love and humility,” says Ruth Clark, Andreas Center coordinator.

The Andreas Center’s mission is to advance the development and influence of Reformational thought and its service to God’s kingdom by broadening the generational and geographical impact of Dordt University.
