Food assistance in Dickinson County up 5.2% since 2014

Dickinson County saw a 5.2% increase in the amount of money received from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since 2014, according to Iowa's Department of Human Services.

In 2023, the county received a total of $1,670,483 worth of benefits provided by SNAP, compared to $1,588,443 in 2014.

Qualified recipients in the program are eligible to receive financial assistance in the form of Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, which then can be used to buy selected groceries. The amount of benefits depends on the net income and household size.

Statewide, Polk County recorded the highest total of food assistance benefits, amounting to $101,313,004 in 2023.

Overall, Dickinson County registered 936 people across 496 households receiving food stamps in 2023. In 2014, there were 1,335 residents assisted by the program living in 660 households.

Since 2014, $16,365,531 has been allocated to Dickinson County as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
