The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation has been able to restart awarding its required percentage of grant money to the local community thanks to the recent reopening of its Grand Falls Casino after a two-month pandemic closure.
The Lyon County schools, cities and county government were granted almost $300,000 in a recent payment by the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation with Central Lyon, George/Little Rock and West Lyon schools receiving more than $48,000 each, making a total of $1.5 million in grants per school since 2011, according to a June 16 press release by KIWA Radio.
The grant funding, according to the KIWA article, is part of a state mandate that requires the foundation to give a percentage of its gaming profits to the community. Per the agreement, the casino must give 4.5% the first $20 million in casino gambling winnings in a year to the foundation. The percentage increases to 4.75% when profits reach $20 million and then up to 5% when profits reach up $30 million, according to the article.
The grant funding amount for the Lyon County cities is based on population and other factors, according to KIWA.
