Iowa Lakes Students Believe in the Power of Birthdays

84

Iowa Lakes Community College recently issued the following announcement.

Birthdays matter, and every child should have the chance to celebrate the memorable occasion, knowing they are valued and loved. For children experiencing difficulties at home or even homelessness, something as simple as unwrapping birthday gifts and seeing their name on a cake has the power to make a child feel special.

Students in the Human Services and Substance Abuse Counseling programs at Iowa Lakes Community College believe in the power of celebrating birthdays. So, in December 2021, Iowa Lakes students on the Estherville Campus donated toys for children served by the local Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) birthday party program.

“My students eagerly picked out items to be donated to help make birthdays a little better for children that UDMO helps. We were pleased to be able to help such a valuable community program and partner,” shared Amy VerMulm, Professor of Human Services.
