Iowa Lakes Community College recently issued the following announcement.
The Northwest Iowa RSVP program has hired Kathy Pudenz as the new Palo Alto County Coordinator starting January 25, 2022, on the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
“I enthusiastically look forward to my role as Palo Alto County RSVP Coordinator and am honored to have the opportunity to serve our communities and RSVP volunteers, both current and future participants,” states Pudenz. “I feel privileged to offer support for the volunteers and their service to our communities in any way that I can.”
As a former (Iowa) Governor’s Volunteer of the Year award recipient, Pudenz brings a personal record of volunteer service and commitment to her position as RSVP Coordinator. In addition, she has experience as a non-profit board and advisory council member, Hospice volunteer, and extensive support and advocacy of individuals with disabilities and their parents.
“Kathy brings a passion for service and compassion for others to the RSVP team,” remarks Dawn Bernhard, Northwest Iowa RSVP Director. “Her people, communication, and organizational skills will blend well for her role as an RSVP Coordinator.”
One of Pudenz’s first goals in Palo Alto County is to execute Pen Pal programs. The Pen Pal program is one of RSVP’s longest-running community contributions. Volunteers are matched with 3rd or 4th graders to exchange “pen pal” letters for a predetermined schedule. Adults and students know each other only by name and whatever they learn throughout the Pen Pal writing project.
RSVP is a national AmeriCorps Seniors program that matches volunteers with service opportunities to meet community needs. Although RSVP volunteers must be 55 or older, they can serve people of all ages. RSVP has been sponsored in Northwest Iowa by Iowa Lakes Community College since 1977.
AmeriCorps brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges through national service and volunteering. AmeriCorps Senior volunteers serve with organizations dedicated to improving communities and helping make service to others a cornerstone of national culture.
