Four Iowa Lakes Students Receive Kibbie Outstanding Service Award At Summer Commencement Ceremony

Iowa Lakes Community College awarded four students the John P. “Jack” Kibbie Outstanding Service Award at the 2022 Summer Commencement Ceremony held on July 29 at the Emmetsburg Campus.

The John P. “Jack” Kibbie Outstanding Service Award is given to keep the light of service to others burning brightly in Iowa Lakes students and is presented each academic year. The four students awarded this year exemplify the spirit of service through strong leadership and significant service contributions to the community and College.

Eliya Johnson, from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, graduated with an Associate in Arts and Science degree. During her time at Iowa Lakes, Johnson was a First Team Academic All-American, Presidential Scholar, an Iowa Lakes Student Ambassador, and a student tutor.

Melody Kuhn, from Pocahontas, Iowa, graduated with an Associate in Applied Science degree, was active in Laker Life, and served as secretary for the Iowa Lakes Choir Club. She helped lead the Laker Life praise team by choosing music, leading practice, and directing the musical pieces on Thursday nights. Additionally, she helped students grow in their faith and volunteered her time at the Mobile Food Pantry.

Mackenna Otte, from Randolph, Minnesota, graduated with an Associate in Arts and an Associate in Science degree. Otte was a Presidential Scholar, student-athlete, member of the Laker Softball team, and a Student Senator for two years, including serving as the Student Senate President on the Estherville Campus during the 2021-22 academic year. She took the initiative to get involved on day one of her time as a Laker.

Ruth Marth, from Estherville, Iowa, earned an Associate in Science degree. Marth embodied the leadership and service archetype by making college her community and actively involving herself in a broad spectrum of Iowa Lakes activities. She served as Biology Club President, Jazz Band Treasurer, Music Department Costumer, and Laker Life Student Leader. Additionally, Marth was a Presidential Scholar, Student Ambassador, and a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society member. She was recently named to the 2022 All-Iowa Academic Team and received the 2022 Coca-Cola Bronze Scholarship.
