Gov. Kim Reynolds said she’s taking steps to make sure COVID-19 doesn’t make its way to food processing plants throughout the state, according to KTIV.
Reynolds wants 18 meat plants to help her efforts and is going as far as speaking with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. She’s also in talks with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to see if they can provide some assistance at their packing plants as well, KTIV reported.
This comes as President Donald Trump announced his plan to start boosting and reopening the economy again May 1.
Despite Trump’s efforts, Reynolds said she’s hoping to be extra careful when it comes to getting things up and running.
"We want to get things up and going and to do it responsibly. We have to be cautious about how we do that because we don't want to just flip the light switch and then have another spike in another week. That isn't beneficial to anybody. We open things up and then in a week say we need to shut it back down. So we have to be strategic and thoughtful and responsible," she said, according to KTIV.
