City of Okoboji issued the following announcement on Oct. 16.
On Tuesday, October 13, 2020 the City of Okoboji City Council pass several new ordinances:
LAKESHORE DRIVE PARKING RESTRICTION (Ordinance No. 257):
Beginning Monday, February 1, 2021 the City of Okoboji will implement a parking restriction on Lakeshore Drive from the intersection of Givens Street & Lakeshore Drive all the way north to Pikes Point. This parking restriction will be on the odd-addressed (or lakeward) side of Lakeshore Drive. No parking signs will be erected to help communicate this to motorists.
SUMP PUMP / DRAINAGE LIMITATIONS (Ordinance No. 258):
In an effort to ensure the safety of those who use our streets and to ensure the longevity of the City’s infrastructure, the City of Okoboji will now require that sump pump hoses be located not less than 15′ from the curb of a City street, or at a point not less than 1/2 the distance from the edge of the building foundation to the curb whichever is smaller. Discharge of water must be entirely upon the grounds of the contributing property. Discharge from the contributing property reaching the City right-of-way shall be considering in violation of this ordinance if said discharge creates a public nuisance, is deemed hazardous, or creates a build up of ice.
UNATTACHED TRAILERS (Ordinance No. 259):
No person shall park any unattached trailer on any street within the City limits except under the following circumstances: a.) Trailers utilized in a designated construction zone b.) Trailers which are inoperable and the condition has been reported to the police shall be exempt for 24 hours after report unless the trailer would constitute a traffic hazard.
ZONING CHANGE [Decks, Steps, Patios, Driveways, Sidewalks] (Ordinance No. 260):
NEW: Walkways, sidewalks, and other pathways are permissible in R-1 and R-2 zoned properties. Pervious walkways, sidewalks, and other pathways are permissible in R-3 zoned properties.
NEW: Driveways shall be no larger than the width of the garage or designated parking space (providing not greater than 32′) Additional off street paved parking shall be limited to no more than 12′ beyond either side of the driveway.
NEW: Steps and stairs as part of a walkway, sidewalk, pathway are permitted in all yards.
NEW: Patios may encroach 10′ into front and rear yards for R-1 and R-2 zoned properties.
NEW: Decks may encroach 10′ into front and rear yards for R-1 and R-2 zoned properties.
SPEED LIMIT CHANGE – 165th Street (Ordinance No. 262):
The City has approximately 900′ of jurisdiction on 165th Street. To be consistent with Dickinson County, the speed limit will be lowered from 35 MPH to 25 MPH.
